About Natusan Litter

What is Natusan Wood litter made from?

Natusan Wood clumping litter is made from 100% PEFC-certified, recycled wood materials, a by-product of the timber industry meaning no additional trees are felled in the making. Not only is it 100% biodegradable, but it's also highly absorbent and clumps each time your cat uses their tray. To ensure Natusan’s very good clumping performance we add a small amount of another one of nature’s miracles: a natural hydrocolloid. This is a natural glue activated by moisture, making sure that the granules stick to each other when they get wet.

What is Natusan Wheat litter made from?

Natusan Wheat Litter is made from a by-product of the wheat flour production.  First step of this milling process is the removal of the outer hull of the grain (spelts). Between the spelts and the white inner part of the grain a thin layer of slightly brownish tinted material (the Aleurone) is located and must be removed before the milling can continue. Up to now this waste material was either used in cattle feed or used in bio-gas-generators, so it isn‘t part of the human food chain.  Due to the high concentration of so-called gluten proteins (latin for„glue“) in this Aleurone-layer the material is perfectly suited for the production of clumping cat litter. During the production of Natusan Wheat Litter we take advantage of these proteins, as we don‘t have to add any clump enhancers. Natusan Wheat Litter is the first organic clumping litter, where the clump stability is not only on par with mineral clumping litters, but often exceeds them. 

What is the difference between Natusan Wood and Natusan Wheat litter?

Natusan wood litter is made from recycled wood materials and wheat from a by-product of the wheat flour production. Due to the nature of the product this means that while we do not advise using wood litter with kittens, wheat is safe to do so! We have also had some fantastic customer feedback that our Wheat litter tracks less, keeping the area around your litter tray nice and clean!

Does Natusan contain Bentonite?

Natusan litter is made from 100% natural wood fibres and DOES NOT contain Bentonite.

How heavy is Natusan?

Most mineral clumping litters are made of, or at least contain, bentonite. This clay mineral can be quite heavy at approximately 1kg per litre. Natusan is made entirely from natural wood fibres and does not contain bentonite, when compared to a mineral based litter, it’s much lighter at around 330g-480g per litre. I expected a much heavier bag!

Our wood litter is available in multiples of 10 litre bags - much like other litter brands, we offer our litter quantities in litres rather than kilograms. Litter is often measured in litres because the density of the litter (meaning how big the bits are, how coarsely it is milled, and what it is made of) can vary greatly from one litter to the next, much the same as 1kg of feathers would take up much more space than 1kg of bricks. Natusan wood litter weighs between 330g - 480g per litre - therefore 10L of our litter will weigh on average 4.05kg - much lighter than many clay litters for example, due to the lack of heavy minerals such as bentonite. The weight varies due to the natural composition of our litter, which can affect average density. Fear not, whilst it may arrive in a smaller bag, 10L of our 100% natural litter will still last on average around 4 weeks for a standard sized cat - and has lots of other great benefits too!

What is the difference between clumping and non-clumping litter?

There are two main types of cat litter - clumping or non-clumping. Clumping is simply where the waste (especially the urine) “clumps” together in lumps. Non-clumping is where the constituent litter particles do not clump together (i.e. they remain as separate particles) despite being soaked in urine. Clumping litter allows you to remove clumps, leaving behind fresh litter so you make full tray changes less frequently.

Is the litter bag recyclable?

Yes, completely emptied bags can be recycled.

Using Natusan Litter

How easy is it to switch from my current litter to Natusan?

If you know your cat can be fussy with their litter tray, it’s best to take a slow and steady approach when switching their litter. We recommend a gradual changeover by mixing a small amount of Natusan in with the current brand every day for several days. This changeover should typically take place over three to five days.

How much Natusan litter should I use to fill the tray?

We recommend a two-inch layer of litter covering the entire tray. This will give your cat enough room to dig with adequate covering afterwards. All cats are different, so it’s important to pay attention to your cat's litter tray habits to see whether you need to adjust this level up or down.

How much litter will I need?

When switching from non-clumping litter to Natusan, a little goes a very long way! For example, 1 bag on Natusan Wood (10L) will last around 4 weeks, and 1 bag of Wheat (20L) will last around 5.5 weeks for an average small-medium indoor cat. Of course, we understand that every cat has their quirks, and all households are different, so our friendly Customer Care team is always on hand to offer bespoke advice based on your current litter type and volume. Is Natusan Wood litter safe for kittens?

It’s common for kittens to explore their surroundings with all senses, including taste and while Natusan is safe for cats of all ages, it’s recommended that your kitten is weaned before making the transition, usually this is around 12 weeks. Natusan Wheat is safe to use for Cats of all ages.

Is Natusan Wheat litter suitable for kittens?

Natusan Wheat Litter is suitable for kittens. Unlike wood litter, the clumpig effect in our wheat litter is only due to gluten proteins. Therefore if any particles are ingested they will be digested and metabolized naturally by the body, making it perfectly safe for your kitten.

Can I use Natusan clumping litter in any type of litter tray?

Natusan clumping litter is suitable for any type of litter tray, with the exception of some litter robots. We recommend using the Beco Litter Tray which is easy to clean and with a click-on hood to catch any kickback, keeping your floor litter free.

Which litter trays are best to reduce tracking?

We find that a tray with a high lip works very effectively to reduce tracking in combination with a great tracking mat. We would consider a high lip to be anything above 10cm. We recommend using the Beco Litter Tray which is easy to clean and with a click-on hood to catch any kickback, keeping your floor litter free.

Which tracking mats work best with Natusan litter?

We have done A LOT of research on tracking mats over the past years and we found the perfect one for your cat.The litter mat available on our website (Litter Mat 30x30 ) is a non-slip mat made from recycled materials, designed to catch litter from your cat’s paws and reduce tracking.

Our team has found through personal experience that a tracking mat like this combined with a high lip tray (Beco Litter Tray )combats tracking very effectively and results in almost zero tracking.

I’m pregnant, is it safe for me to use Natusan?

When pregnant, we recommend that you follow the advice provided by the NHS, which is not to empty your cat litter tray but if possible, get somebody else to do this for you. Alternatively, if this is not an option, you should wear disposable rubber gloves and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.

How should I store Natusan litter?

Unlike other litters, our Wheat litter is 100% natural and made from pure plant fibres. Therefore it is best to store it in a dry space and away from fluctuating temperatures.Our Wood litter should be stored at room temperature in dry conditions.

What does Natusan Wood litter smell like?

All plant-based raw materials have characteristic smells e.g. wheat smells like wheat, corn smells like corn and Natusan clumping litter smells like wood, because that’s the raw material it is made of. Generally this smell is described as very pleasant and natural – similar to freshly cut wood.

What does Natusan Wheat litter smell like?

All plant-based raw materials have characteristic smells eg. wood smells like wood, corn smells like corn and Natusan Wheat Litter smells like wheat, because that’s the raw material it is made of. Generally, this cereal like smell is described as very pleasant and natural. However, when switching your cat from rather odourless mineral litter to Natusan Wheat Litter a little patience might be needed before the cat gets used to the smell. A good strategy is to mix increasing amounts of the new product with the old one, so that the cat can get accustomed with the new litter smell.

How does Natusan clumping litter control odour?

Odour control in cat litter is mainly about avoiding the formation of ammonia. Natusan performs on average 1.4 x better on odour control* (measured by ammonia concentration) when compared to other natural clumping litters.Natusan forms very small, stable and well shaped clumps. Their texture is slightly elastic, but easy to remove from the litter tray. Natusan forms very efficient clumps due to the low clump volume compared to other litters*. This means the litter can absorb the urine very efficiently and keep the odour trapped. Standard mineral clumping products (bentonite) vary hugely regarding odour control properties and can have an ammonia concentration of up to almost double Natusan after day 1 and up to over 3 times the ammonia concentration on day 3!**in a study where we compared Natusan clumping litter to 14 other natural clumping litters.

Will my litter tray smell bad if I don't remove clumps daily?

If you didn't remove clumps daily then:On day 3 (say if you go away for the weekend), the ammonia levels in Natusan wood litter are an estimated 25% less on average *compared to other natural litters.On day 1 (say if you forget to remove clumps one day), the ammonia levels in Natusan wood litter are an estimated 29% less on average* compared to other natural litters.However, we of course recommend removing clumps daily. *in a study where we compared Natusan clumping litter to 14 other natural clumping litters.

How do you calculate waste and money savings in your Waste Calculator?

We have done extensive research on the performance of Natusan litter in comparison to other litters. We know that in comparison to Non-Clumping litter, you will reduce the amount of litter you use by up to 65% and in comparison to other Clumping litters, you will reduce your waste by up to 30%. You can find more information on these statistics on our Terms & Conditions page. These waste savings allow us to make the comparisons in our waste calculator.

For non-clumping litter waste savings, we ask you how many times a month you do a full tray change. This allows us to calculate how much litter you use a month, and we compare this to only needing to do a full tray change once a month with Natusan. This then allows us to calculate how much waste you could save over a year.

For non-clumping litter money savings claims, we take the average monthly usage volumes above (depending on how often you change your tray) and the average price point of a premium non-clumping litter. We then calculate the potential savings over a year.

For clumping litter waste savings, we assume you do a full tray change once a month and make a comparison with how much litter is required to form a clump using Natusan vs. the average clumping litter. We assume you remove 3 clumps daily from your litter tray. This then allows us to calculate how much waste you could save over a year.

For clumping litter money savings claims, we take the monthly usage volumes above and the average price point of a premium clumping litter. We then calculate the potential savings over a year.

What is the basis for your Waste and Savings claims?

"Natusan produces 65% less waste." Claim based on a study where we compared Natusan clumping litter to 3 other high performance, premium non-clumping litter. Last comparison conducted in August 2020.

"Save up to £120 a year by switching to Natusan". Claim based on the average monthly consumption of Natusan clumping litter vs. non-clumping premium litter. We compare the price of a 40L bag on subscription.

"Natusan is 60% lighter than mineral based clumping litters". Natusan litter has a density of 330-480 grams per litre while a mineral-based clumping litter has a density of approx. 1kg per litre. Per kg, this means Natusan is approx. 60% lighter if we take the average density of 405 grams per litre.

"Spend 75% less time cleaning with Natusan litter". Claim based on needed to do a full tray change once a month with Natusan vs. a weekly change for non-clumping litters.

How Does your delivery service work?

Delivery is FREE when you spend £30 and over. Delivery is £2.99 for orders under £30. Orders will be shipped with dpd and will take 1-4 working days. Delivery is fully trackable – we’ll email you a link to your tracking information once your order has been shipped. You will receive a ‘pre-delivery notification’ to confirm the delivery date. How do I return an item?

If you change your mind, you have 14 days to return an unopened product, at your cost, for a full refund. Please contact our customer care team if you have any questions. Are Project Blu beds washable?

Yes, Project Blu beds can fit into a washing machine but they can also be washed in a bath by letting it soak in lukewarm water and some gentle detergent. All Project Blu beds can go through periodic machine washing, but please use a low speed cycle on at a low heat (30°C max), with a gentle detergent and no fabric conditioner. Do not dry via the washing machine dryer or tumble dry. For best results air drying away from direct heat sources is recommended. The safest way to wash a bed is in the bath as it uses less force and is less likely to cause damage. The best way to retain our beds’ look and feel is by giving them a light vacuum clean every now and again to remove any bits of dirt or grit.

Are Project Blu beds durable?

How can I clean my Beco Litter Tray?

This tray washes well in warm soapy water. The hood can be detached easily meaning you can clean both parts separately to make sure you don’t miss any spots.

What is the Recyclable Litter Box made of?

The Recyclable Litter Box is made from cardboard and the base is lined with one layer of paper, one layer of PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) and one layer of Low-Density Polyethylene. This protects the cardboard from urine splashes and ensures its durability during the month. As the layers are extremely thin, it also ensures the box is full recyclable.

How does the Recyclable Cat Litter Box work?

- Unpack your Recyclable Litter Box (4 parts including the scoop)- Unfold the sides of your box and pour the litter in so that it completely covers the bottom (usually about 2 inches)- Fold down the four top flaps, place the lid on (lip facing backwards) and press down- Build your scoop- Scoop clumps and faeces out regularly- Top up with fresh litter when required, maintaining a constant level- When you are ready for a new Box, remove all contents and close down your used litter box by lifting up the top flaps and pressing the sides inwards- Recycle along with your household cardboard

What are the Brushes made of?

The grey brush is made of hard plastic 70% TPE-E and 30% PP. The yellow brush is made of soft plastic 90% TPE-E and 10% PP. The brushes are BPA free and they sustainably produced in Poland.

About Lovebug™ Dry Cat Food

What is the difference between Lovebug™ cat food and traditional meat cat food?

Lovebug™ cat food contains all of the taste and nutritional goodness of traditional meat-based cat food, without the traditional meat. Instead, it uses insect protein as its primary source of protein and amino acids.

What type of insects is Lovebug™ cat food made from?

Lovebug™ cat food is made using black soldier fly larvae. These insects can be reared on a wide range of food industry by-products (that would otherwise go to waste), making them a circular and sustainable source of protein. Black soldier fly proteins have just the right proportion of amino acids, fatty acids and minerals, which are essential for pet nutrition.

Feeding Guidelines

Does my cat need wet food as well as dry?

Lovebug™ cat food is a complete and balanced food for cats. That means it provides all the nutrients with your feline friend needs, in just the right amounts and ratios. There's no need to feed your cat any other food at all - either wet or dry! There's actually no requirement for cats to eat wet food because complete and balanced nutrition can be provided in either form. It just depends on what your cat prefers.
