So, we don’t want to brag but our good mate Ken Chaplin currently holds the world record for the most trees planted in a single day!
Ken planted a whopping 15,170 red pine seedlings in a single 24 hour period near Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada back in 2001. I mean, we’re a pretty green-fingered bunch here at Natusan but that’s impressive even by our standards!
(Alright, full disclosure, we don’t know Ken, but we wish we did—he's a legend!)
You don’t have to be a genius to know that trees help the environment, but you may be surprised by the benefits that planting trees can provide. Besides producing oxygen and removing carbon dioxide and contaminants from the air, trees have many other social, economic, and environmental benefits such as:
- Reducing noise pollution (by absorbing sound)
Experts suggest planting a variety of both hedges or shrubs and taller trees to create a wall of foliage from the ground up
- Providing shelter for wildlife
From birds and squirrels to bees and hedgehogs trees contribute to boosting biodiversity as they become a food source and natural habitat for wildlife
- Providing a renewable energy source
If harvested and treated sustainably, trees are a great source of renewable energy and a fab alternative to fossil fuels. With smart forest management, they’re brilliant eco-friendly fuel.
The truth is, you don’t need to stay awake for 24 hours planting 15,170 seedings in fact, you don’t even have to get your hands dirty. You can do your bit for the environment by supporting our friends over at Trees for Cities. (Sorry Ken!)
Trees for Cities is the only UK charity working at a national and international scale to improve lives by planting trees in cities. Whether it’s donating, volunteering for fundraising, they’ve made it super easy for you to get involved
